Based on Natalie Baszile's best-seller, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment brings you Queen Sugar: The Complete First Season. From executive producer Oprah Winfrey and award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay, the series tells the story of the Bordelon family, as three estranged siblings return home after a family tragedy forces them get back together. Contemporary drama Queen Sugar follows the lives and loves of the Bordelon siblings: Charley, Nova and Ralph Angel in the fictional town of Saint Josephine, Louisiana. After their father died, the whole family has to unite and decide how to live on and manage the farm.
The series begins as Charley, a savvy woman living an upscale Los Angeles lifestyle, returns to her family home and reunites with her siblings. Nova, a world-wise journalist and activist and Ralph Angel, a formerly incarcerated young father in search of redemption and support. Their newly inherited farm forces the siblings to rely on one another as they rebuild both the land and their relationships.
Charley and her husband, Davis, seem a beautiful couple. They married young age, had a kid and worked really hard to get where they are. David becomes a very successful basketball player and Charley who went to school and studied a lot, becomes her husband's manager. Both, they seem to have an ideal marriage, their life is a symbol of success and great accomplishments reached by hard work and dedication. But after David is caught in sports sex scandal, their life changes and everything not like before any more.
The siblings are now in the center of family sugar operation. They find out that their dad did not plant and have any crop for two years. He did not have any finances to operate the farm and had to take a side job, probably not suitable for his age and health conditions. So the Bordelon has a choice to sell the farm or continue to operate it. Though running a farm is not easy, the most difficult in the story is to make the siblings agree on what to do. They often ague, sometimes over little unnecessary things. They all from one family but so different from each other in many ways, from how to live, what to eat to values and life goals.
Queen Sugar first launched in September 2016 and was a huge success among the audience, 2.4 million viewers tuning in to the September 2016 two-night premiere, a network record. The series was renewed for a second season even before it premiered.
