Jeannie's Crab Lake Christmas by David Mulford Book Review | Brown Books Kids

Jeannie's Crab Lake Christmas

Winter is the magical season. When wild storms make the perfect frost-encrusted winter landscapes. Otters, hedgehogs, birds, deer and other animals get ready to face the cold. It means that Christmas time is very close. The woods are about to open a secret about the most festive time of the year. In the wilderness near Crab Lake nature tells a story about the most wonderful event which can happen only on Christmas!

Jeannie often visits Crab Lake during summer time, but this year she decides to come to the cottage in for Christmas. All the animals in the lake country are excited to meet Jeannie, because they often see her in summer.  Even bears and hedgehogs who hibernate in winter decide to greet Jeannie and postpone their sleep. And do you know the secret, animal can talk, but only in winter! This time they can tell Jeanine stories about their life and share how happy they to see her at the Crab Lake.

Once Jeanine arrives, animal greet her and invite to a special place in the woods where they celebrate winter season. There bear can dance, animals can sing and tell interesting stories. Deer arrive with a sleigh to take Jeanine. They move up and down hills, passing trees and bushes, fields covered with snow blankets. She realizes that Crab Lake is the most beautiful place she ever seen!

Once they arrived at the spot in the woods, the festivities start with cheer and joy. Bears start dancing, they sing their lovely songs. Then other animals join to the dance and tell their verses and stories of the woods. When animals can talk, it is easy for Jeanine to understand what happens in the lake country. Everyone is served delicious food at the celebration, I think hot honey punch flavored with chestnut and spices is a nice treat!

It is time to get back to the cottage for Jeannie. While the festivities are over the strongest friendship is built and fond memories about new friends the lady wants to share with other family members as they gather around the fireplace.

Jeannie's Crab Lake Christmas by David Mulford is beautifully written book with lovely illustrations. We were impressed how the author describes winter landscapes, nature and a forest. Teddy said you can feel and imagine that you stand outside in the middle of the woods surrounded by trees and forest animals. In the book you meet bear cub Pudgey and his family, kind Mr. Woodchuck, distinguished Bellknap Beaver, and the deer, the wolves, the cardinals, squirrels and many more. Enjoy the lovely holiday story and believe that animal can talk on Christmas!
