Do Not Drive Distracted - Our Safety in Your Hands

This post brought to you by Insurance Hunter. All opinions are 100% mine.
Mobile technology advances are bringing multiple benefits along with risks while on the road.  Did you know that 8 out of every 10 accidents are a result of distracted driving? It probably seems that few seconds spent on texting, talking over your phone or surfing the web does not make much difference but it does.  Driver’s eyes and mind go off the road during these crucial seconds and put under the risk all the people on road:  another drivers and passengers.  Besides mobile devices there are multiple distractions which can take you attention as well and as a result, cause a dangerous situation on the road, take a look at Insurance Hunter infographic .
As a parent I understand how kid’s behaviour can be distractive during the driving along with a lack of sleep and thinking about other things not related to the driving. So prior to the travel prepare children with everything they may require like sunglasses, toys or games (so you do not need to take them out while on the road),  feed  kids (yourself too if possible) and  take them  to the washroom before leaving home,  check the map and directions before pushing the gas pedal.
Applying make-up, eating and drinking while holding the wheel also put you into a distractive position so please do not do that, multi-tasking does not work on the road. We all can Stop Distracted Drivers and create a healthy atmosphere on the road by simply focusing on driving.
Remember that our safety is in every driver’s hands with no exception; do not risk your life and the lives of others.

  1. Driving while distracted is certainly dangerous-but what most people forget is--so is driving when you are tired. Unfortunately lots of people drive to work and/or home from work tired--it is all too easy for your eyes to shut for even a few seconds which can cause a major accident!

    1. You are completely right! Both distracted driving and driving while tired are serious issues that often get overlook. More attention needs to be given to these issues so that fewer accidents happen as a result of these poor driving habits.

  2. I don't drive, other drivers make me nervous: they either live in their own tiny world and think that traffic laws do not apply to them or they are simply nuts, or they think that it is OK to storm through a family neighborhood full of kids...people just have to learn to be responsible. While on a car it is not only their lives that are at stake.

  3. It is amazing how crazy people drive when they are on their phones, they slow down, they speed up, they are just crazy and that is just when they are talking on them. And don't get me started about Senior Citizens driving, they can cause more accidents than they are in. I really think they should have to take a driving test at a certain age in all states, maybe like starting again at 60. That would probably get a lot of people off the roads and put more people to work like Taxi services.

    1. Tammy, there is no doubt that when a driver is on their phone, they become less predictable and it becomes more difficult for other drivers to anticipate what they may do next. One thing that we see all the time is driving sitting at a green light texting and holding up traffic. This is one of my major pet peeves.
