Christmas by Lamplight 2016 at Black Creek Pioneer Village

Christmas by Lamplight

December is a wonderful month of the year! It is filled with holidays, festivities, gatherings and winter activities. Just before Christmas, only few Saturdays in December, Black Creek Pioneer Village hosts amazing Christmas by Lamplight event. The village invites to experience holiday festivities in the glow of candlelight. Black Creek transforms into 19th century Christmas village with holiday décor, live music and delicious food. Come and see how people celebrated holidays and entertained themselves during the times without TVs, Cable & Netflix.

Last week we had a chance to visit the village and join the Christmas by Lamplight activities. Lots of families joined the event, as there was something for everyone: kids, seniors and adults.   We wandered across the village and visited many homes decorated for Christmas. In Fisherville Church we joined The Ambiance Singers and enjoyed holiday music and songs. The performers have really amazing voices and the program is made mostly of Christmas favorites to get you into holiday spirit. Teddy also joined singing Christmas Carols which took place in Half Way House. Music filled the village for the season; you can hear the songs and tunes across the streets. Ready to make a nice moves in Ballroom Dancing or watch a Christmas story, there are Tin Soldier, Rod Puppet Performance or all time favorite The Snow Queen Pantomime!

Santa's Cottage

There are multiple workshops held at the Village. Teddy made a Scherenschnitte Christmas card by cutting papers and arranging symmetric design. We also had a chance to try various Christmas treats baked at the village. Mincemeat tarts and Roasted Chestnuts made outdoor were our favorites.

Santa at Black Creek

And what is the Christmas without Santa. Kids were in line there to talk to this season show maker. He was in Santa’s Cabin to greet families and wish them Happy Holidays. Teddy had a good conversation with Santa asking for a surprise gift as he tried so hard to be a good boy the whole year.

Christmas by Lamplight continues two more Saturdays, December 10 & 17, 2016 from 6:00 p.m.to 9:30 p.m. Do not miss an opportunity to join the magic and enjoy the glow of Christmas as if it was two decades back. The price range is $34.95- $29.95 for for adults, $29.95 - $24.95 for children plus HST, parking is extra.

Tin Soldier

Do not forget to stop by the Village Gift Shop, there are lots of unique items which make wonderful presents this holidays season. Plus for Lamplight event only, shoppers are offered %13 off of purchases.

  2. What a wonderful recount of your experience at Christmas by Lamplight! It truly sounds like a magical event that transports visitors back to a simpler, more nostalgic time. I love how the village is decorated and brought to life with holiday music, performances, and festive activities. The workshop where Teddy made a Scherenschnitte Christmas card sounds adorable — I might try that myself! And of course, meeting Santa is always a highlight for kids and adults alike. Thanks for sharing such a warm and detailed description — it’s definitely inspired me to visit Black Creek Pioneer Village during the holiday season someday!

  3. This sounds like such a magical and heartwarming event! I love the idea of stepping back in time to experience Christmas the old-fashioned way — candlelight, carolers, roasted chestnuts, and all. It must’ve been so special to walk through the village and feel the holiday spirit everywhere. Teddy’s card-making and visit with Santa sound adorable too! Definitely putting Christmas by Lamplight on my must-do list for next December. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful holiday experience!
