Playing Dreidel Game

If you ever were curious about new games and holidays, then it is good to learn about Dreidel Game. Having kids makes us learn and play more, teaching them all new things and concepts. This month I received 100 Medium Plastic Dreidels. They are conveniently packed in a zip lock stand up bag, easy to take and play with you. I think they are perfect for teaching kids Dreidel Game. The size is excellent for our JK kids to play, not very small and not too big, little hands know what to do right away. And colors definitely catch your eyes: live and vivid.


So here are some details how to play this interesting game, the rules may be different but we go the easiest way, noting that any number of people can play the game:

1. Each player gets an equal amount of pennies
2. Each player puts a penny in the center
3. Time to spin the dreidel! The letter facing up when dreidel stops does the following:
Nun – do nothing
Gimel - the player gest everything   in the pot (1 penny should always stay in the center)
Hey – the player takes half of the pot
Shin – the player put one penny in the pot
4. The one with the most pennies is the winner.

The dreidels are great for schools and class games, kids are so much into it, plus quality you can definitely rely on. Safe for kids older than 3 years old. It is amazing how much children love bright colors and spinning, and the dreidels spin really well to kids’ excitement. Children can choose the colors they like and take dreidels home if they want. The Prettier the Flower, the Farther From the Path #IntotheWoods

Into the Woods, the Disney interpretation of Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine musical, brings new perception of well-known fairy tales. Once upon a time in a far away when the Baker was just a child, his father was caught stealing magic beans from the vegetable garden of the Witch (Meryl Streep) next door. As punishment for losing the precious beans, the Witch was placed under a curse which made her look like an old ugly lady. The Witch puts a spell on the Baker’s household, saying that the Baker and his Wife would forever be incapable of having a child.


Years later, when the Baker and his Wife found out about the curse, they forced to go into the Woods to seek out the ingredients which will both reverse the spell and restore the Witch’s beauty. By the time the blue moon rises in three days’ time, they must return with four items: a cow as white as milk, hair as yellow as corn, a cape as red as blood and a slipper as pure as gold.


I did not see the musical so I cannot compare to the movie, but when I started watching the movie I was impressed how smoothly the characters switch between singing and speaking to take you into the events unfold in the story. You can easily understand that all characters in the movie are connected to each other, and like in a famous song everybody looking for something and everybody is wishing for something. Cinderella wants to attend King’s festival; Jack wishes that his cow would give milk, the Baker with his wife wish for having a baby, the Wolf wishes to fill his hungry stomach, the Witch to get back her beauty and so on.


While following the adventures and making the wishes come true, the characters come to the end point and then ask themselves if they really need what they were wishing for. When Prince says: “ I was raised to be charming, not sincere” and Cinderella in return :” Wanting a ball is not wanting a prince” gives an idea that the characters wishes may be not what they really want. They do not realize that until all the wishes come true, until they are done. So what do we finally come to? Life goes on and the heroes of the story need find the ways to live and move on.


Overall, I think the movie is amazing introducing the adventures of our favorite fairy tale characters but with realistic twists in that imaginary Kingdom with true feelings and wishes but where the heroes questioning if they really need them to be happy. The singing makes me feel so much into it plus when Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp and Chris Pine playing in the movie. They bring funny and sad moments with their characters. While I think blind Cinderella’s step sisters are too much for a scary tale, and the Giant Woman which ruined the whole Kingdom looks more like a victim than a villain, the movie is fantastic to see and more than once. Into the Woods opens in theaters this week.

Ignite Children's Imagination and Creativity with Peekapak

These snowy and cold days are the best time to get close as a family and spend some time playing. While we have an option to watch movies or play computer games, this time we decided to switch to making crafts and creating our own stories thanks to Peekapak.


Peekapak is a monthly subscription service that offers an activity pack to kids aged 4-8 to inspire imagination and creativity in children. Each box combines the magic of storytelling with hands-on craft activities the whole family can participate in.

The box we received was about Value of Friendship. Fist we read a story about a Peekaville Elementary School Creation Fair and learned how Menka, Cody and Leo became friends and then following their adventures we were able to re-create what kids did in the story. Teddy also found that every kid loves doing different things, for example, Cody loves to paint and Menka loves building.


The box included two crafts: a birdhouse and a photo frame. We decided to start with a birdhouse, to color and decorate using crayons and then colorful stickers. Teddy was so excited to color the house first and then cut different shapes and decorated the bird house. Next craft was about creating stamps and memories. Teddy selected the shapes for his photo frame to decorate and we stuck them to a wooden cube. Then using the ink pad we made stamps on our photo frame. It was really interesting to add different shapes like circles and squares. Teddy also added his name using letter stickers. To add some unique touch Teddy colored the frame with crayons. And final step was placing a photo into the frame, looked really nice and unique.

I have to say that Peekapak has all necessary tools in its pack, including scissors for little fingers. In case you decide to take it for grandma’s house for holidays or just stop by your friend's house, you can take a box with you and do not worry about anything else. All necessary items are already in it, just play and have fun together. Then Teddy made a little blue bird using the clay from the box, it looked pretty sitting in our birdhouse.


While our craft activities were over, our imaginative plays were about to start. Using class set up and the wooden characters, we can create and tell our new stories about friends, teachers and school and what everyone loves to do and why.


Peekapak is really fun activity for the whole family, do we have another time to gather together and create something with our hands without watching TV or using apps? It is a quiet time to be together, create something new and play like we are little kids again.
